Apple’s WWDC ( World-Wide Developers Conference ) started on June 10th where they introduced wonderful things such as the Mac Pro, iOS 7, the new MacBook Airs, and iTunes Radio. The main thing that they introduced at WWDC that I want to talk about today is the introduction of OS X Mavericks.
OS X Mavericks, is a California inspired operating system for the Mac. Overall, a great operating system, it is faster, better working, and has many new features. Here are the features that I thought were the most important.
Finder Tabs and Tags
Now, in the Finder, you can have tabs to get from one part of finder to the other. They also introduced tags to keep all of your files organized in your Finder. Now, with Finder Tabs and Tags, it simplifies the Finder to make it easier and quicker to use.
iBooks was finally introduced for the Mac. One of my favorite features in iBooks for the Mac was the studying feature that was introduced. You can take notes quickly and use them as flash cards right on your Mac. The studying feature is perfect for students in College.
Notifications on the Mac will show up in the top right of your screen. You can completely interact with your notifications, you can respond to a message or a Facetime Call. The OS also allows you to sign up with your favorite websites to get breaking news in your notifications. Such a wonderful feature.
iCloud Keychain is a great new feature to have! It stores all of your passwords, and credit card entries on all of your devices. The Mac will also generate a secure password for you when you need to enter one, and the best part is that you do not even have to remember it!
This is probably my favorite addition to the OS. If one of your apps is completely hidden behind another app, it will go into App Nap. This will save you tremendous amounts of battery, CPU energy can be reduced by up to 23% with App Nap.
The new Calendar for the Mac is wonderful! Now, Facebook events appear right on your calendar. Many other features are included as well, such as Weather, Travel Time, and Maps right on your calendar! So, as you can see, it doesn’t just look great, it does great as well.
Safari looks better than it ever has with its new sidebar that can be opened to view your bookmarks, your reading list, and shared links. Your reading list is all of the articles that you have recently looked at. Now with the sidebar, you can find the article you want to read in almost an instant. The Shared Links tab on the sidebar will show you shared links from people you follow on Twitter, and LinkedIn.
Overall, OS X Mavericks is a wonderful operating system that will definitely do well. It is crisp, clean, and looks smooth riding. There are a few more features that were introduced to the new OS, and you can see them all by clicking here.
